Obituary for ROOF

Raymond Bradley Roof Jr. died June 8, 2004. He was born March 3, 1929 in Battle Creek Michigan to parent's Raymond Bradley Roof Sr. and Dorothy Crawford Roof. He attended the University of Michigan, where he received B.S. degrees in metallurgical engineering and chemical engineering; an MS degree in metallurgical engineering; a Ph.D. in crystallography. On June 12, 1951, he married Shirley June Knoll and they moved to Los Alamos in 1957, where he was employed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a research scientist. Following his retirement in 1990 he moved to Albuquerque where he lived for 14 years. He was an active member of the Los Alamos Unitarian Church' where over the years he held every elective office. He served as chair of the pledge drive on numerous occasions, designed and built custom cabinets and supervised major remodeling projects of the kitchen, bathrooms, and sanctuary. After moving to Albuquerque he joined the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque, where he organized Blood Drives for the Red Cross. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Steven Knoll Roof of Fairmont, WV, Michael Bradley Roof of Los Angles CA, and three grandchildren; Benjamin Roof, currently stationed in South Korea, Tegan Walker and Jordan Roof, both of Fairmont WV. A Service in Celebration of Brad's life will be held at the First Unitarian Church Wednesday June 16, 2004 at 10:00 am.
