Obituary for RANSDELL

Dr. C.H. (Cliff) Ransdell, passed away May 30, 2004 in his sleep after an extended stay in the hospital, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He moved to Hot Springs in 2003, after the death of his beloved wife Ruby, were he lived with his son and wife. Cliff was born November 24, 1909 to William Francis and Jeddie Whiteside Ransdell in Breckenridge, Texas. Cliff started teaching at Texas A&M University in 1937, working through many positions with the University and retiring in 1976 as Assistant Dean Emertius of the College of Engineering. During WWII he supervised Engineering Science, Management, War Training Courses and the building of war material in many different locations in Texas; while continuing to teach at Texas A&M. In 1976 the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University honored Dr. Ransdell with the Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in Student Relations; and the College of Engineering recognized him with the C.W. Crawford award for Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering. Dr. Ransdell earned degrees from Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University, Howard Payne University, and the University of Texas. Among the Honor and Academic Fraternities were ASME P; Phi Eta Sigma H; Phi Delta Kappa LE; Lota Lambda Sigma H; Pi Tau Sigma M.E. and Tau Beta Pi (Engineering). He was a professional Engineer in Texas and New Mexico. As a Mason, Cliff, was twice Past Master of his Lodge, Past District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Orator and Grand High Priest of the most Excellent Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Texas. He was commander of his commandery-sovereign Red Cross of Constantine, and a member of Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests. Cliff was Deputy Grand Governor of the Sovereign Grand York Rite College of North America in New Mexico. He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite having held offices in most bodies of Scottish Rite. Dr. Ransdell was a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent for the First Baptist Church, College Station, Texas while living there. He was a deacon, trustee, and Sunday School Teacher for the First Baptist Church, Tijeras, New Mexico after moving there in 1985. In Temple he was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Cliff Ransdell was respected for a lifetime of Christian Service and loved to teach and lecture on personal dignity and Christian living. He is survived by a daughter, Bettiann R Carlson of Temple, TX; son, Billy H. (Randy) Ransdell and his wife, Sandy of Hot Springs, Arkansas; granddaughter, Tracey R. Dean of Conroe, Texas; grandson, Troy H. Ransdell, of Dallas, Texas and Many dear friends. We will all miss our "Grampy". Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday June 3, 2004 at Sheffield Funeral Home in Temple with Reverend Mike Harkrider officiating. Burial was in Temple Garden of Memories. Memorial may be made to a favorite charity.
