Obituary for ANAYA

Valentin "Tiny" Anaya, 63, passed away at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, May 14, 2004 following an automobile accident. Tiny was born August 3, 1940 to Felipe and Maria Eslinda (Gonzales) Anaya in Socorro, NM. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvonne (Gallegos) Anaya of their home in Socorro; children: Valentin Jr. and wife, Gloria and their daughter, Elena; Sefie and fiance, Talitha; Manuel and wife, Magdalene and their three children, Julia, Manuel and Isaiah; and his only daughter, Eslinda; six brothers and three sisters and their families also survive him. Tiny dedicated his life in service to his Church and community. A devout Catholic, he served as an usher for the Old San Miguel Mission much of his adult life. A career public servant, he served as City Clerk for the City of Socorro under Mayor Tony Jaramilllo for many terms. Tiny was the Civil Defense Officer for Socorro County and most recently, he was serving his second term as Socorro County Assessor. He will be remembered most for his advocacy for the people of Socorro County, whether it be on a one-to-one basis, helping City or County employees with job concerns or lobbying in Santa Fe for any issue that would better the community. He was well known and well respected in Santa Fe, especially with his long-time friend, Governor Bill Richardson. Tiny touched many lives, as witnessed by the literally thousands of well wishers that have visited the family. He died just as he lived, on duty and in service to the people of Socorro County. A Rosary was recited on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Old San Miguel Mission, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, NM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John C. Daniel as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers are his brothers: Paul Anaya, Louis Anaya, Phillip Anaya, Narciso Anaya, Gilbert Anaya and Leroy Anaya. Arrangements are under the care of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.
