Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 02, 2004

Helen Emily Zimmerman Brandenburg, 86, was born in Paris, Tennessee on May 29, 1917. She passed away, at home, on April 26,2004, surrounded by loving family members. Helen Emily first came to New Mexico at age 5 when her father, James Fulton Zimmerman, became president of the University of New Mexico. In 1939 she accepted a WPA position in Taos where she met R. Howard Brandenburg. They married October 1940. Helen's primary focus was always her husband and her children, although she found time to be active in PTO, The First Presbyterian Church and the choir in that church. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother family and she will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. She has now joyfully joined her husband of 63 years, Howard, who passed away on November 23 2003. Helen is survived by her sister, Mrs. C. S. Cottle of California; her children, James Michael Brandenburg and wife Claire of Taos, Shari B. Adkison and husband William of Santa Fe and Elizabeth B. Johnson and husband Clifford of Taos. She is also survived by grandchildren Catherine and Howard Brandenburg, both of Albuquerque, Elizabeth Adkison, of Phoenix, Brittany Adkison of Durango, Brian Adkison of Albuquerque, Greg Johnson and wife Clare, of Albuquerque, Meredith Johnson and great-grandson Tyler Jacob Maechtlen, both of Albuquerque. Private services have been held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to: First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 215 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos, NM, 87571; Taos Animal Shelter, 1200 St. Francis Ln., Taos, NM 87571; Collaborative Action for Taos County Health, Attn: CATCH Taos Medical Services Foundation, P.O.
