Obituary for THOMPSON

Joe Howard Thompson, 96, a former employee of LTV Aerospace and owner-manager of Thompson Fresh Eggs Farms, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at a hospice house. Funeral was on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 and burial is in the Gardens of the Good Shepherd at Moore Memorial Gardens. Joe Howard Thompson was born July 7, 1907 to Frank Melvin and Louise Bush Thompson in Hagarsville, AR. In 1910 his family homesteaded near Clayton, NM where he graduated in 1925. He was New Mexico State's all-star center and received a scholarship to the University of Arkansas, where he was the Razorback's high scorer in 1926. On December 12, 1926, he married the girl next door, Thelma Gentry of Clayton, NM and they celebrated their 77th anniversary on December 12, 2003. They moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1927 then moved to Arlington in 1951. While employed with LTV Aerospace, he managed and owned Thompson's Fresh Egg Farm for over 20 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise Thompson; sister, Virginia Mae Thompson Bushelle; and brother, Frank Melvin, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Thompson of Arlington, VA; daughters, Arlene Boddy of Albuquerque, Mary Hutchison of Arlington, Alice Turner and husband, Wayne of Rockmart, GA, Jolene Osborn and husband, Jerry of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous family members and friends who will all miss him dearly.
