Obituary for ELLISON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday April 09, 2004

Lena Effie Smith-Ellison passed over on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 just a few months shy of her 69th birthday. She left a piece of her heart in everything she created and on everyone she touched; you can see her in each of her four children. As an artist she painted ceramics, knitted, crocheted and sewed. Her annual cross-stitched Christmas ornaments will hang proudly on many trees for years to come. Her creative juices flowed through her sewing machine as she made clothes for her children, Barbie doll outfits, Halloween costumes, choir robes for the church, furniture coverings even upholstery for cars. As a chauffeur and motivator, she kept her children involved in school, church, dancing, music and swimming. She entertained her family with picnics, games, crafts and activities as well as kept them healthy. Her specialty in the kitchen was baking. She created the fanciest of cookies, cup cakes and cakes throughout her children's youth; as they grew she took to making their wedding cakes. Always the eternal romantic she enjoyed reading, music and flowers. Lena was happiest providing help and joy for others, be you family, friend or acquaintance. She graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA. and worked until she married Roy F. Ellison, Jr. in 1959. She received her associates degree in accounting at TVI in Albuquerque, NM. Lena is survived by her husband Roy of 45 years this June; her daughter, Julie Ogborn-Wylie and husband, Wayne of Austin; Cindy Franks and husband, John, Don Ellison and wife, Jen, Tony Ellison and companion, Freda all of Albuquerque, NM; her grandchildren, JJ, Andy and Dawna Franks will miss her as she was their number one sports fan and baby sitter; her brother, Howard Smith and wife, Winnie of Springfield, VA; her sister, Eloise Woodson of Shipman, VA.; nieces and nephews.
