Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday March 31, 2004

Carrie-Mae MacNair Blount passed away on Monday, March 29, 2004. She was born in New Jersey, the daughter of Walter Archer MacNair and Vernna-Mae Growt MacNair, and graduated from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. During a visit to New Mexico she met and later married her husband of fifty-one years, Robert J. Blount. Survivors include daughter Susan Blount Wiarda, husband Kevin Wiarda, and son Russell Cole Wiarda; son Lawrence Carter Blount, wife Michelle Kaeser Blount, daughter Emily Susan Blount, and son Matthew Robert Blount; daughter Holly Blount Laird, husband J. Michael Laird, and sons Charles Michael Laird and Jon Ross Laird; and special friend Karen Lou Carlson. Her innate sense of fairness was upset during an election ballot count at a meeting. This lead to formal study then to becoming a Professional Registered Parliamentarian and ultimately President of the National Association of Parliamentarians. She served as teacher, consultant, and convention parliamentarian for local, national, and international organizations. She continued her membership and active participation in the Pi Beta Phi fraternity after college, and worked nearly every year with the chapter on campus at UNM, as well as with other pan-hellenic groups nationally. Carrie-Mae believed in giving back to the community through volunteer activity. A favorite was serving as a member and chairman of Albuquerque Crime Stoppers in its early and formative years. She was a long-time member of the Junior League of Albuquerque and served on many community boards. Carrie-Mae enjoyed being a wife and mother, reading, sewing, skiing, water skiing, and was an avid fan of college women's and men's basketball. High on the list of her special friends are the doctors, nurses, and staff at The University of New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center who helped her battle the disease for twenty years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center, 900 Camino de Salud, Albuquerque, NM 87131. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Boulevard NE, at three in the afternoon. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
