Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 25, 2004

Margaret "Peg" Hertz, a resident of Grand Court Retirement Home in Albuquerque, passed away Monday, March 22, 2004. Peg died at her home at the age of 94. She has been a resident in Albuquerque since 1942, when she settled here with her husband, Clay Hertz. Peg's passion has always been to bring joy to others. She enjoyed her 14-year career teaching 2nd graders in Cleveland, OH. While raising her family, Peg developed the first Jewish Day Camp in Albuquerque and was instrumental in the development of the first Kindergarten in New Mexico. Her kindnesses include working with the blind, physically handicapped children, and later planning continual activities at Valencia Grand Court where she resided for 11 years. Peg Hertz's vitality has been the marvel of those who knew and loved her. She fascinated many with her knowledge in her docent position at New Mexico's Museum of Natural History. Earlier in her life, she engaged underprivileged children in varied activities while counseling at Camp Weise in Maine. It was there that she met her future husband of 47 years, Clay Hertz, who passed away November 1989. Survivors include her four children: Judy Stubbs, Jay Hertz, Ellen Davidson and Jon Hertz. She has six grandchildren and a new great-grandchild, Trevor Allen Stubbs. We will all greatly miss our beloved Mom and Gramma. Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Temple Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 5800 Lomas NE, 87110, the Albuquerque Jewish Community Center, 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE, 87109 or New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation, PO Box 7010, 87194-7010.
