Obituary for JOHNSON

Katie Johnson, 96, a lifelong resident of Belen, New Mexico, peacefully passed away in an Albuquerque hospital on March 6, 2004. She was a very active resident of Belen, being in business there for many years. She was also very active in civic organizations being a member of Belen Chamber of Commerce as well as a past worthy matron of Eastern Star, past president of Belen Pilot Club, and a founding member of First Presbyterian Church in Belen. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the same group for 60 years. Katie was preceded in death by her husband, M.J. "Lefty" Johnson, three brothers, one sister and one grandchild. She is survived by her children, son, Jim Johnson and his wife, Jan; daughter, Carol and her husband, Paul Wood; her grandchildren, Bryan Johnson, Julia and her husband, Steve Scotti, Chuck Smrt and his wife, Sue, Jim Smrt and his wife, Jacque, Dina and her husband, Brian Bell and Sandy and her husband, Ron Beck. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Tiffany, Shannon, Lexi, Hanah, Brady, Cassidy and Stephen; her sister-in-law, Barbara Calhoun; nieces, Betty Hodge and Paula Keeper; nephew, Steve Calhoun and several great nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Gloria Rael who was her wonderful caretaker for two years. Also a thank you to the ladies that cared for her in Albuquerque at the Village at Alameda for one year. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 85 Manzano Expressway, Rio Communities, Belen, New Mexico with Reverend Ed Wicklein officiating.
