LaVerne A. Page, 87, died Feb. 26, 2004 at Albuquerque Manor, 400 Louisiana NE after care for a stroke some two years before. He had been a resident there four months. La Verne was known as Vern by all. He was born in Charles City, Iowa on May 21, 1916 to Marion LaVern and Rose Jane Simmons Page where they lived on a working farm. After graduation from Finchford Consolidated School, Vern went to Des Moines attending American Technical Institute. He then secured first employment at Oliver Tractor Works in Charles City. Here he meant Donna Pearl Hutton, daughter of Samuel Floyd and Loma Blanche Henry Hutton, who would become his bride and life companion. He moved his family to Minneapolis, MN where he worked at General Mills in manufacturing of World War II armaments, roll correctors and navel torpedoes. At the close of the war Vern moved his family back to the Finchford farm. In 1952 the family moved again, when the farm was sold. Albuquerque provided employment first at ACF, then Gulton and Singer where Vern worked in manufacturing for Government contracts in the atomic energy arena. The family acreage at 145 La Vega Dr. SW provided the land for Vern's joy. He sold his Fresh Valley Garden Produce in Cedar Crest for many years after retirement. Vern's love for hunting and fishing brought him a life-time of pleasure. He was a life member of Hiram Lodge #13 of the Grand Lodge of AF&Am of New Mexico, having first joined the Masonic order in 1942 in Lake Harriett Lodge #277, Minneapolis, MN. He was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star in Janesville, Iowa Equity Chapter #6 and Ballut Abyad Shrine in Albuquerque, NM. LaVerne is survived by his widow Donna and daughter Nancy Carter, son and daughter-in-law Donald and Gayle Page, sister and brother-in-law Florence I and J.D. Thomson, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Krista Page of San Diego, CA; and step granddaughters Kyme, Kelly and Kari of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. Sisters, Esther and Dorothy preceded him in death. Memorial Service will be held March 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church sanctuary, Rev. Larry Moss presiding, 8600 Academy Rd. NE. Memorial donations may be made to the Wild Life Rescue Inc. of NM, PO Box 13222, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
