Obituary for THOMPSON

Alice Elizabeth Hantelman Thompson, 90, died February 18, 2004. She was the last of six children of William and Christina Hantelman of Independence Township Iowa. Alice is survived by son, Jack Tardy and wife, Mary of Colorado Springs, CO; and daughter-in-law, Eleanor Edmonds of Albuquerque. Grandchildren are Neel and Judy Marsh, Albuquerque; Bob and Sue Thompson, East Wenatchee, WA; Greg and Jan Speights and Tom and Lynn Wangerin, Colorado Springs, CO; and Carl Brookshire, Crawfordsville, IN. She leaves 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great- grandchildren. At age 18, Alice moved alone to Las Vegas, NM for her health. She came to Albuquerque in the late 1930's. Her work ranged from nanny and school teacher to the Finance Office at Sandia Base where she retired. She was volunteer choir director and organist for Immanuel Lutheran Church. Later she kept the membership records and was on the Book and Hymnal Repair Group of St. Luke Lutheran Church. Alice was an active Democrat both locally and nationally. She also supported the education of five children through the Christian Children's Fund. In lieu of flowers, Alice requested donations to St. Luke Preschool and Kindergarten or the St. Luke Lutheran Church Social Ministry Fund, 9100 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at St. Luke Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2004. A gift from Alice to all is an organ concert at 11:00 a.m. Arlene Ward, retired organist from UNM, will be the featured artist.
