Obituary for WALKER

Frank, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1975, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2004. Frank was born on January 21, 1922, in Raton, New Mexico, where he lived until graduating from high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, served in the Pacific theater of World War II, and was honorably discharged in March 1946. He completed his education at the University of New Mexico, graduating with a master's degree in fine arts. He taught art at Valley High School for 18 years, taught art and photography for four years at New Mexico Highlands University, and retired in 1982 after serving as art curriculum director for the Albuquerque Public School district. In 1979, while hiking in the Ojito Wilderness Study Area in northwest New Mexico, Frank and two friends made the noteworthy discovery of dinosaur bones, later named Seismosaurus, which are housed at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History but are currently on exhibit in Japan. He was an accomplished artist, and in 2002 a one-man show of his work was held at the Coleman Gallery in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Sargent Walker.
