Obituary for MATTSON

Roy Mattson passed away on February 9, 2004. He was born in Floodwood, MN on October 13, 1911. He was the last surviving member of his family. He led a colorful life in the 20s and 30s. He married Edith Jarvi on November 22, 1938; she preceded him in death on October 12, 1988. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was a Master Carpenter, whom Norm Abrams would be envious of. He moved his family to Albuquerque in 1954 where he continued his work in carpentry until he retired and moved to the east mountain area where he liked to be called, "Old man of the mountain." He was an interpreter for a Finnish balloonist at the first Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Survivors are, Dennis Jarvi of Floodwood, MN, Linda and Steve Zimmer of Redding, CA; and children, Rhonda, Steve, Lance and Zabrina, Cheryl Gormally and children, Chris, Collin, Annie, and Kyle of Albuquerque, Jim Gormally of Albuquerque, Carmen and Bob Tressler and sons, Dennis, Cory and Joe of Oakland, MD., Nick Mattson and Cyndi Miller of Ruidoso Downs, NM; several nieces, nephews, cousins; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
