The Rev. Edward V. Rutowski. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 9, 1919, the son of the late Louis Rutowski and Antoinette Linkowska. Both parents were immigrants from Poland. Father Rutowski is the next to the youngest of ten children. He attended a local Catholic Parochial school before entering studies for the Priesthood. He pursued his classical education both at St. Francis High School, Athol Springs, New York and St. Francis College, Staten Island, New York. He then entered the Franciscan Theological Seminary of St. Hyacinth in Granby, Massachusetts. After completing the six year course in philosophy and Theology he was ordained to the Priesthood on March 17, 1945 at Granby, Massachusetts. After his ordination he served as an assistant Pastor in the following Parishes: St. Stanislaus Parish, Baltimore, MD from 1945-1950. St. Michaels Parish, Haverhill, Massachusetts, from 1950-1951. Father came to New Mexico in 1951 for reasons of health and served as assistant Pastor at St. Helena's Parish in Hobbs, New Mexico, then at St. Rose of Lima, Parish, Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He was appointed Pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Vaughn, NM in 1952 and held that post until 1954. He was appointed Pastor of Nativity B.V.M. Church, Alameda in 1954, then was pastor of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church until his retirement. He has been given the honor of Knight of Jerusalem, conferred upon him by HIS BEATITUDE MAXIMOS V. HAKIM, Patriarch of Antioch, and all of the East, of Alexandria and of Jerusalem on Sunday, July 14, 1968 at the Church of Immaculate Conception, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He held many offices in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. He was: Director of the Christian Family Life Movement; Treasurer of the Priest Relief Fund; Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus for many years; Archdiocesan Director of the Family Life Bureau; Board member of the Archdiocesan Building Commission; Chaplain General of all the Knights of Jerusalem in the World; Family Life Director of the South-West Region. Father Rutowski initiated the PRE-CANA MARRIAGE CONFERENCES in the ARCHDIOCESE IN ALBUQUERQUE in 1954 which developed into the most beneficial Marriage Preparation Course in the Church. To commemorate his Silver Jubilee, Father Rutowski celebrated in his parish two special Masses on March 17, 1970. Solemn Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Guests and Dignitaries from throughout the state. Archbishop James Peter Davis D.D. presiding. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Sigmund Charewicz gave the sermon. And a low Mass at 6:00 p.m. for the Parishioners who were unable to attend the morning Mass. The sermon at the evening Mass was given by the Rev. Joseph Paszek O.F.M. Conv. Co-Principal of St. Francis High School, Athol Springs, NY and classmate of Ft. Rutowski. He is survived by his sister, Irene Munczenski of Lyndhurst, NJ; nephew, Michael Munczenski of Lyndhurst, NJ; nieces, Diane Marx and husband, Bill of Manchester Township, NJ, Dorothy Siwruk and Helen Babino both of Fresh Meadows, NY. Fr. Rutowski is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary - Westside Chapel on Sunday, February 8, 2004 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited also on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. NW. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
