Obituary for BORN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday January 17, 2004

Robert Born, 77, lost his courageous battle against mantle cell lymphoma on November 23, 2003. He was born in Woodland, MI. A Veteran, he proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Employed in the construction industry, he worked in many states and Egypt. Bob never met a stranger, and he always had a story or comment to offer everyone. He was a decent, honest, caring man who lived by his word. He always called himself just a poor old country boy. He loved his wife, family, golf and Detroit Red Wings hockey. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Barbara; one brother, Phil and wife, Joyce of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Carolyn Brechiesen and Frances Reuther of Michigan; cousin, Joan Hewitt of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria; and parents, Robert and Vesta Born. The family thanks, for their outstanding and gentle care, Dr. Douglas Clark, the entire staff of NM Oncology Hematology Consultants, and the staff of 5B at Presbyterian Hospital. There will be a Prayer Vigil on Friday, January 16, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. and a Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bob to the NM Cancer Center Foundation at NM Oncology Hematology, 4901 Lang Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
