Obituary for KUEHNER

Joseph Kuehner, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2004. A resident of Rio Rancho since 1981. Joe was born February 24, 1922 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, one of ten children. Joe was raised in a Roman Catholic home and remained a devout Catholic his entire life. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. He served in combat as a Marine in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Only later in life did he relate some of the harrowing and humorous experiences of being a tail gunner on a dive bombing airplane and how he and the pilot mistook a whale for a submarine with disastrous consequences. Joe was a passionate and accomplished bowler and helped organize a bowling league in the Rio Rancho area. He was involved in many worthwhile activities that benefited the community. Joe was especially devoted to his wife and missed her terribly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Genevieve in 2002, and one son, Gordon Paul. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph Jr. and wife, Marcia; daughter, Carol Ford and husband, Mark; two grandsons, Neil and Sean McIntyre; three brothers, Monsignor Ralph, Edward, and Francis. His family will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank Joe's many friends and neighbors, and especially recognize Mary Duneman and family, Joe and Berna Vojtech, Jack Sattler, Hospice, Dr. William Anderson and staff, O'Hare's Pub and Grill and staff, and many others. A Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, January 14, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
