Obituary for GARRETT

Monna (Squirt) L. Garrett, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Thursday, January 8, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Willis E. Garrett. Squirt was born in Ralls, TX and graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. degree in Home Economics and moved to Albuquerque in 1945 to work at the Civil Aeronautics Administration. Squirt, along with her dear friend, Elaine Pogue, owned the Village Workbasket in Moriarty for 10 years. She was a member of the Desert Rose Chapter #70 of the Order of Eastern Star and Sandia Presbyterian Church. One of her greatest pleasures was attending Lobo Basketball games. Squirt and Willis were avid travelers from African Safaris to the glaciers of Alaska. In recent years, she was very active in the Assistance League of Albuquerque and enjoyed volunteering at Blue Portal. Squirt loved to go to her daughter and son-in-law's Dairy Queen to decorate cakes and visit with the teenagers. Her strength and tenacity were an inspiration to all. Squirt was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Steve and wife Mary Beth, David; daughters, Jan, Sue and husband Tony; grandchildren, Ashley, Evan, Kelsey, Haley and Garrett; and sister, Lois Polvadore of Lubbock, TX. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Jack Rust, Howard Calkins, Jim Templeton and Tony Otero. Bruce Hale and Al Herman will serve as honorary pallbearers.
