Obituary for BANES

Elsie Flaws Banes, a native of Albuquerque, born Wednesday, February 1, 1911, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2004. She is survived by her by her two sons, Thomas and Richard Banes; her daughter, Nancy Calahan; grandchildren, Stacey and Brandon Banes, Devin and Kurtis Ferebee; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Megan Finlayson; nieces, Betty Reed and Norine Shaul; and cousin, Bob Hodgson. Elsie married Wiley Thomas Banes, owner of the Banes Company, on November 26, 1936. They were married 36 years until his death on May 18, 1972. Elsie graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1929 and went to work for an Albuquerque doctor for 13 years. She retired from her job to be home with her family as a full-time homemaker. Never one to be idle, she volunteered many hours to the Presbyterian Hospital, served on the Board of Directors for the All Faiths Receiving Home, and was past-president of the Four Hill Ladies Golf Association. Her last years were devoted to the care of her beloved sister, Edna Lively, who passed away in June, 2003. Private memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church.
