David Norman Berry, a.k.a. "Lanky Dave" left us on December 23, 2003 at the age of 55. He is survived by his wife Patty Berry, mother Juanita Berry, father Norman Berry, daughters Sara Berry and Megan Phillips, sons, Odin Berry and Damon Phillips. He was a loving husband and father who cared far more than he ever showed. Dave was born on February 14, 1948 in Port Authur, Texas. He served 4 years in the Marine Corp and served in Vietnam in 1967-68. Dave was proud of being an Eagle Scout. He was an active freedom fighter for the motorcycling community. He served as the Sergeant at Arms for the New Mexico Motorcycle Rights Organization and was a very active lobbyist in Santa Fe. He was also the State Deputy Coordinator for American Bikers Aimed Toward Education, a previous Chapter Coordinator for the 1st Mountain Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. and represented both groups in the Coalition of Clubs. Dave hosted and produced a regular TV show on Public Access Channel 27 called "Dave's World" which featured news of interest to the motorcycling community and featured local bands. He was honored to be associated with the recently produced documentary film "In the Shadow of the Blade" which dealt with the effect of the Vietnam War on the entire nation, military and civilian, in an attempt to provide final closure for many people. He owned and operated "TNT, Your Unauthorized Harley Dealer" in Winston/Salem, North Carolina and participated in numerous motorcycle races back East with his drag racing team "Flaming A Race Team" all over the east coast, including Boozie Creek and Daytona among others and held several records. When he moved back to New Mexico, he set up shop as "Route 66, Your Unauthorized Harley Dealer" first in Edgewood, then Moriarty and later in Albuquerque. Dave was an avid fisherman and always looked forward to camping with his family and friends. Dave touched the lives of an amazing number of people and will be sorely missed by all. No one who ever met him will ever forget him. His friends and family would like everyone who knew him to celebrate his life at a Memorial Service this Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the Canon de Carnue Land Grant Hall, 364 Highway 66 East, just west of Tijeras from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call 281-3493 for further information.
