Obituary for DIEWALD

Gilbert Anthony Diewald of Albuquerque, a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep in the morning of December 15, 2003. He left us seven days before his 89th birthday. Gil was born in Elyria, OH on December 22, 1914 , the eldest of 12 children. He loved and married Vern Smitek on June 8, 1940 and moved to Albuqureque, NM in 1955. They are the parents of four children, Mae Owen of Groesbeck, TX, George Diewald of Albuquerque, NM, Gil L. Diewald of Truth or Consequences, NM and Pennie Troxel, also of Truth or Consequences. After Vern passed away in 1968, Gil fell in love with Barbara Jean Barre and they were married on of June 5, 1971. They are the parents of Gary Diewald of Johnstown, Co. Gil worked diligently his whole life to support his family as a welder in an Ohio steel mill, a carpenter and home builder. For 35 years Gil was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 1319. He was an avid fisherman and loved boating and camping. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; all five of his children and their spouses: Jim Owne, Janet Diewald, Greg Troxel and Elyse Diewald; his brother, Earl Diewald and his sisters, Ursula Klingshirn, Patricia Carpenter, Delores Biltz and Jo Ann Nau, all of Elyria, OH and Dorothy Meltzer of Cardington, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bob Owen, Danny Owen, Andy Diewald, Jennifer Diewald, Allen Diewald, Christie Eaton, Clint Eaton, Bradley Troxel, Jami Diewald, Alex Diewald, Caleb Diewald and Drew Diewald, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Megan, Michael, Alexis and Josh. Gil was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Diewald; his first wife, Vern Diewald; his brothers, LeRoy Diewald, David Diewald and Ray Diewald; his sisters, Mildred Baker and Dolleva Ponting; and his beloved dog, Abigail. He will be greatly missed by his family and by his many friends and relatiaves. The pallbearers for his service will be George Diewald, Jim Owen, Bob Owen, Andy Diewald, Allen Diewald and Bradley Troxel. Services will be held Thursday, December 18, at 10:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – Sandia Ward, 4109 Eubank NE, with Bishop Rigby presiding. A viewing will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday, December 17, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
