Obituary for MONTOYA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday December 06, 2003

Jesus A. Montoya, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec 4, 2003. He was born July 18, 1920, to the late Justo and Agneda Montoya. Also preceding Jesus in death was his beloved wife, Eva Suina Montoya; son, Justo Montoya; brother, Macario Montoya; and sister, Cora Martinez. Jesus honorably and proudly served his country during World War II and was so pleased that he was on the "frontlines for 166 days and came home without a scratch." Jesus was a painter with the Zia Corporation in Los Alamos, and retired after 30 years. He belonged to the Painter's Union, and was a lifelong member of the VFW. Jesus truly enjoyed working with his cattle at the ranch in Los Montoyas. He will forever be remembered for his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and to his Christian faith. He was a simple man, but a true "gentle" man who loved everything in life, especially spending time with his family and friends. Jesus was also a kind-hearted, generous man who was always doing for others. His favorite saying was "Be good to yourself." Jesus was survived by his son, Johnny Montoya; his loving daughter, Lou Martinez and husband Tony; and granddaughter (his Hita) Carol Martinez, whom he adored. Also surviving him are sisters: Esther Perea of La Junta, CO; Connie Garcia of Rio Rancho, NM; Isabel Martinez and husband Domingo of Albuquerque; and Vangie Garcia and husband Antonio, also of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Lena Ortiz; comadre Ruby Shirley of Santa Fe; special friend Tina Carrillo, and numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly knew him as "Uncle Chuy," Montes or Montana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to: The Carmelite Nuns, 49 Mount Carmel Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505-0352. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec 8, 2003, Berardinelli Family Chapel. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec 9, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, 984-8600.
