Obituary for RECK

James John (Jim) Reck, 88, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by members of his loving family, on Tuesday, November 18, 2003. He is survived by his beloved wife, Leona Reck; daughters, Karen Reck and husband, Paul Akmajian and Terri Reck and husband, Fred S. Sturm; grandchildren, Franz Sturm, Lora Sturm, Adrianne Akmajian and Kira Akmajian; niece, Linda Nollen and husband, Rick; grandniece, Crystalyn Hicks; sisters, Louise Quinlan of California, Sue Gates of Idaho; and brother, Julian Reck of California; cousins, Jo Sena and Frank Comiskey of Albuquerque, and Tom Beales of Illinois; as well as many other members of a large extended family, good friends and neighbors. Jim was born April 9, 1915 in Wilberton, Oklahoma, to Petrina Comiskey and Angelo Pete Reck. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank A. Reck and wife, Pat E. (Kulcsar) Reck; nephew, James Frank Reck; his mother, Petrina Romero and stepfather, Ignacio Romero; and father, Angelo Reck and stepmother, Elizabeth Reck. In 1924, Jim's family moved to the mining towns of Cerrillos and Madrid, NM. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. Following the war he moved to Albuquerque, where he met and married Leona Kulcsar in 1950. They purchased their home in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, living there happily together for 53 years. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1980, where he was employed for 32 years, heading the electronics shop and electronics apprenticeship program. He was a member for 46 years at the American Legion Post 13. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting with family and friends. He also enjoyed crosswords, card games, reading, music and art, especially the performances and works of his grandchildren, daughters and son-in-laws. His love for the natural beauty of New Mexico, and above all, his love for his family, are his lasting legacy to us. Services will be held Saturday, November 22, 10:00 a.m., at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul NE, with Pastor Beth Purdum officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Reception at the church following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul NE, 87112.
