Roy Alvin Olson, born July 31, 1927 in Clovis, New Mexico to parents Raymond and Ola Mae Olson, died on Sunday, November 16, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Oma Fae Olson of Elephant Butte, NM; sons, Gary Olson and wife, of Minnesota; Ron Olson and wife, of Arizona; a daughter, Kathy Day and husband of Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrated his life on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church at the Butte in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Roy was a Naval Veteran of World War II. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Belen, NM from 1950 to 1987. Everyone who came in contact with him were thoroughly enchanted by his intelligent wit, he was always generous with his heart and possessions. He was a man who excelled at everything he did from model airplanes to building a solar home on the west mesa, he was a fisherman, ham radio operator, railroad engineer, pilot and painter. He was a Mason and a Scottish Rite of the 32nd Degree Order. At one of the Masonic dinners, a dear friend who had a dog from the same litter as Roy's was bragging about how his dog could answer the telephone, and Roy's response was "Whose dog do you think made the call?" His joy, wit, and generosity will be deeply missed. But we all know that he is in a better place and we look forward to joining him in Heaven. For the past eight years, he has lived in Elephant Butte, NM, and enjoyed immensely the people of this community. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Church at the Butte Building Fund, 408 Hwy 195, P. O. Box 1346, Elephant Butte, NM 87935 or to the charity of your choice.
