Obituary for CHAVEZ

Benito P. Chavez, also known as "Mr. B", a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on October 23, 2003. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. He was well known throughout the Los Lunas area for riding his ATV all over town. He was a wonderful and caring grandfather and a devoted friend. He loved playing his trumpet with only his hands and everybody would stop and ask him to play different tunes. Many years ago, Benito was invited to Chicago to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gina Padilla, in 1992; one grandson, Tony Padilla, in 1990; and his parents, Abelino and Eugenia Chavez. Benito is survived by one son, Richard Chavez and his family; three granddaughters, Valerie Jetter of Tijeras, NM, Gail Padilla of Denver, CO, and Irene Martinez of Los Lunas; one grandson, Michael Padilla of Albuquerque, NM; and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his neighbor, Pablo Jr. and Flora Hernandez of Los Lentes; and his pals at Henriettas. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 27, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel and will follow with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church and interment will follow at the Los Lentes Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ruben and Daniel Martinez, Herman Baca, Michael and Eddie Hernandez, and Henry Vallejos. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pablo Hernandez, Jr., Adam Padilla, Steve Jetter, Aaron Padilla, Zachary Padilla, and Dylan Jetter. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM 87002
