Obituary for VINING

Janet Vining, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for seven years, died Saturday, October 18, 2003. She is survived by her children, Margaret Vining and partner, Sally Bachofer of Albuquerque, John K. Vining and wife, Linda of Mt. Vernon, OH and Victoria Vining-Gillman and husband, Rich of Portland, OR; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keats Vining. Mrs. Vining was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral. She graduated from Carlton College with a B.S. in zoology, and from Case Western Reserve University with a M.S. in nursing education. She worked as a public health nurse in Cleveland and Chicago where she met and married Keats K. Vining, Jr. M.D. They made their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they raised three children. An accomplished pianist, she was a lifelong music lover, a supporter of the Grand Rapids Symphony until her move to Albuquerque and the New Mexico Symphony thereafter. She was instrumental in establishing and funding the Naumberg Prize winning New World Quartet. Mrs. Vining was an avid gardener, bird watcher and nature lover. Spending all her summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, she enjoyed sailing, canoeing and hiking. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, 4:00 p.m., at St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver Ave. SW, with The Rev. Gary Meade officiating.
