Obituary for SWANSON

Robert Lowell (Bob) Swanson, 77, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and beloved husband, father, brother and friend, died at his home on October 13, 2003 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Bob was born September 19, 1926 in Canova, SD, the third child of Richard O. and Kathryn Swanson. Following high school in Lake Andes, SD, he joined the United States Army and after serving in the Asiatic-Pacific, was honorably discharged in August 1946. Following his discharge, he moved to New Mexico. In 1959, he met and married Norma Herbst. He was a graduate of University of Albuquerque and owner of Swanson and Associates, a real estate appraisal and consulting firm. He was designated Senior Real Property Appraiser for the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and later served as the president of the local chapter of the SRA. He was also awarded Member Appraisal Institute designation by the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. In 1965 he was appointed by Governor Jack Campbell to serve on the New Mexico State Hospital Board. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #461 and the VFW Post 401, and an active member of the Los Altos Golf Association. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ardis and his brother Wesley. He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Kathi; brothers, Richard and Dean; and sister, Glenda. He is also survived by three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date, but no other services are planned in accordance with Bob's final wishes.
