Robert E. Ashby, 86, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died on October 3, 2003. He was a dear father, adoring grandparent, and loving brother. Known as "Woody" growing up in rural southeast Missouri, he was born near Dexter on February 14, 1917. He fought as an infantryman, mostly in Italy and France, in World War II. He was a security inspector at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, from 1949 to 1979, when he retired. His wife of 44 years, Mary, died in 1999. His daughter, Barbara, died in 2002. He is survived by his son, Timothy; a sister, Eloise; four grandchildren, Jeff, Debbie, Woody, and Konrad; and five great-grandchildren, Robert, Josh, Andrew, Jennifer, and Daniel. A Graveside Veteran's Service will be held Friday, October 10, 2003, 9:00 a.m., at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
