Obituary for PALMER

Helen G. (Thomas) Palmer, a resident of Albuquerque for 60 years passed away October 4, 2003. She was born on January 13, 1919 in Madison County, Iowa, the eldest child of Floyd Jacob and Lillian (Arnold) Thomas. Her education was received in one-room country schools in Madison County, at Macksburg High School, at Winterset High School, and at Simpson College, where she met her husband of sixty-two years. She taught in the rural one-room schools in Madison and Clarke Counties prior to her marriage on May 25, 1941 to Harry Donald (Don) Palmer. To this union was born two sons. She is survived by her husband, Don Palmer; son, Marvin R. Palmer, M.D. and his daughters, Naomi and Meredith; son, Keith E. Palmer, M.D., and his wife Christine and their children, Jacob, Grace and Andrew. She is also survived by her brothers, Jack Thomas and his wife, Florence and Wayne Thomas and his wife, Donna; sister, Ethyl Jensen and husband, Jim; and also nieces, nephews and many friends. She and Don were early members of the First Methodist Church Two-Som Class. Helen and Don served in sponsorship of youth groups and were members of the Board of Deacons at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She was very active in neighborhood affairs and helped organize and was past president of the Elder Homestead Neighborhood Association. Funeral Services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Grateful appreciation and thanks is expressed to the University Cancer Research and Treatment Center and the University Hospice Group for their helpful assistance and consideration.
