Obituary for BERTINO

James Peter Bertino, 79, of Santa Fe, NM, died on Monday, September 15, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; sister, Flora; father, Dominic; and mother, Giacinta. Mr. Bertino was born in Raton, NM, on July 1, 1924, to Dominic and Giacinta Bertino. James was Valedictorian of Santa Fe High School in 1943, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, where he graduated in 1947 from Yale University. He was also a member of Yale Chapter of the Society of Sigma XI. From 1947-1983, was employed as a chemist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. James was an avid traveler and botanist, and loved the blues! James is survived by his daughters, Anne (Patrick) Bertino of Phoenix, AZ, and Paula (Neal) Bertino of Santa Fe; and son, Peter Bertino of Las Vegas, NV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be donated to Open Hands and/or St. Vincent de Paul Society of Santa Fe in Jim's name. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, Sept 18, 2003, at 7:00 p.m., Berardinelli Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the St. Francis Cathedral. Interment to will be held at Rosario Cemetery.
