Obituary for LACY

Howell B. Lacy, Lt Col, USAF (ret), 84, passed away on August 15, 2003 in Sun City, AZ. Howell, a resident of Albuquerque from 1945 to 1964, is survived by his wife, Thelma Lacy; daughters, Linda Lacy of Redmond, WA, Sharon Shoaf of Capitola, CA, Diane Lacy of Redmond, WA, Susan Lacy of Albuquerque, NM; son, Jim Lacy of Snohomish, WA; and grandchildren, Ben Newman of Oakland, CA, Brendan, Conor, and Colin Lacy of Snohomish, WA, and Katherine and Devin Gutierrez of Albuquerque, NM. Howell was a WWII combat veteran and as a member of the US Army's 1st Armor Division and 45th Infantry Division participated in the North African Campaign, the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio, and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in Germany. Howell was a graduate of the mechanical engineering departments of the University of New Mexico (BS) and Oklahoma State University (MS). A career Air Force Officer, he was one of the first members of the New Mexico Air National Guard at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM. While employed at Sandia National Laboratories, the Air Guard was activated and Howell returned to active duty and his Air Force assignments included Sandia National Laboratories, and the Air Force Special Weapons Center at Kirtland Air Force Base; the Air Staff in the Pentagon; and the SATAF Commander at Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD. After retiring from the Air Force, Howell established a residential construction business in Sedona, AZ.
