Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday September 14, 2003

Mary Francis Cutler, 98, a former resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, in Phoenix, AZ. She was born on August 20, 1905 in Winslow, AZ to Augustin William and Maude Alice Jakle. She had three brothers (Augustin William Jakle Jr., John Jakle, and Edward Jakle). She also had four sisters (Dorothy Bennett, Loretta Kindle, Ann Scott, and Therese Fronske). Mary married Donald Dean Cutler of Greene, NY on April 10, 1939 at the Church of the Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary in Flagstaff, AZ. They renewed their vows in 1970 at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. At the time of Mary's death, they had been married 64 years. Dean was employed by The United States Forest Service, and was stationed in Sedona and Flagstaff, AZ; Reserve, Santa Fe and Alamogordo, NM; Washington, D.C.; and Albuquerque. Mary F. and Dean had two children, (James William Cutler of Rio Rancho and Alice Claire Cutler of Tempe, AZ); three grandchildren, (John Dean Cutler of Albuquerque, James Joseph (J.J.) Cutler of Glindon, MN and Betsy Ann Karner of Rio Rancho); four great-grandchildren, (Joshua, Brian and Briana Cutler of Albuquerque, and Jaiden Cutler of Glindon, MN). Mary was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as her family was the light of her life. Family and friends alike were touched by her generosity. Mary was a devout Catholic and member of the Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church for more than 40 years. She was a longtime member of the Legion of Mary the Altar Rosary Society and The Catholic Daughters of America. Mary enjoyed going to daily Mass with her husband. It has been said that the church was her second home. Anyone who knew her was touched by her faith. Dean and Mary are recipients of the St. Francis Award of the Diocese of Santa Fe. Mary was an avid bridge player as she had her own club, and was also an avid baseball fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, as her father, (Pops Jakle), was a pitcher with the St. Louis Browns.
