Obituary for Martinez

Alfonso A. Martinez passed away the 28th of December at Towner House under the loving care of Mae Ocana. Mr. Martinez had been ill for quite a few years. Mr. Martinez was born in Wagon Mound, New Mexico, then moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he was well-known. Mr. Martinez was a Civil Engineer and worked for the Highway Department for 36 years where he worked as Bridge and Highway Engineer. In 1981, he moved to Albuquerque. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Vickie of the home; one grandson, Alexis Nicolas Martinez. Mr. Martinez was preceded by his only son, Wilfred A. Martinez, who passed away the 15th day of August of this year. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Rafael, Severino, Rudolfo and Eloy Martinez; one sister, Priscilla Cruz; surviving brothers, Napoleon Martinez and wife, Isabel, Christobal Martinez and wife, Evangeline of Santa Cruz, NM, Pascual Martinez and wife, Stella; four sisters, Pita Block of Santa Fe, Cleofas Lujan and husband, Nick, Marcella Calloway of Virginia, Letisha Shelton of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving loved ones are his two step-children, Josephine O. Short and husband, Ernie; step-son, Mark Lee Bailey and wife, Grace of Roswell; one beloved granddaughter, Loretta Mares; and two daughters, Tina Marie and Leona Mares; several step-grandchildren and granddaughters. We also wish to mention Ben and Mary Martinez for their love, attention and for being there for us at all times and for their help. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Lomas and Tennessee. The cremains will then be taken to Sunset Cemetery where his cremains will be place to rest.
