Obituary for Sury

Mary Ethel Brown Sury, 85, died August 19, 1998. She was born March 14, 1913 in Bigelow, AR. Married Joseph Frank Sury on August 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1969. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School, sang in church choirs, and taught Vacation Bible School in various Baptist Churches. She worked as a Pink Lady of Presbyterian Hospital and in Day Care for the Albuquerque Public School System. She graduated from high school with honors and was an actress in many school plays to raise money for the school library. Survived by three sons, Earl R. of Albuquerque, Joe Paul of Albuquerque and Roger D. of Clovis, NM; four sisters, Ila Enos of Merced, CA, Bobbie Vaught of Bixby, OR, Wilma Blaylock, and Willa Doan Curtis, both of Hot Springs, AR; brother, Epraim Brown of Bigelow, AR; four grandchildren, Lois, Kim, Gary and Kerri; and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Sam, Eric, Heather, and Linda. Preceded in death by husband; brothers, Woodrow Brown, Wesley Brown; and sister, Opal Gibbons. Visitation will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 24, 1998 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 12201 Comanche Rd. NE, on Tuesday, August 25, 1998. Rev. Vernon Lierly officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Steve Gerkey, Bill Knox, Scott Brown, Emil Burbridge, Lee Gibbons and Velon Voight. Interment will follow services at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Dr. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Memorial contributions to Grace Baptist Chapel Memorial Fund, 12201 Comanche Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
