Obituary for Strosnider

James I. Strosnider, 86, a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Santa Fe, died Friday, August 14, 1998. He is survived by his beloved spouse of 63 years, Mary Ellen; daughters, Sandra Raucci and husband, Francis of Salt Lake City, UT and Kathryn Orton and husband, Timothy of Walker, MN; sons, Lloyd Strosnider and wife, Judith of Albuqueque and Michael Strosnider and wife, Jacklin of Great Falls, MT; 21 grandchildren who have fond memories of Boompa; and 21 great-grandchildren in whom he took great pride; sister, Virginia Salm of Evansville, IN. Mr. Strosnider was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister. Born May 12, 1912 in Newport, OH, he was the son of James N. Strosnider, M.D. and Agnes F. Strosnider. He was one of five children and grew up in Sidney, OH and later attended the University of Dayton. In 1935, he married Mary Ellen Meyer at the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe. Jim relocated to New Mexico, where he was a Sergeant in the New Mexico State Police. Later he was one of the founders and first director of the Boys Club of Santa Fe. In 9144, he and the family moved to Great Falls, where he became director of the USO Club. After World War II, he joined the Anaconda Company as director of the Employee's Club where he served until he accepted the appointment of director of Catholic Relief Services in Africa. He served posts in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cameroons, and Somalia. Upon his return to Montana, he was a representative for Investors' Diversified Services until his retirement. Jim's service to the Boys Club and the community was recognized at the 50th Anniversary Awards Dinner. He was a graduate of the University of Great Falls, and a fifty year member of Holy Family Parish in Great Falls, MT. He was an avid golfer, charter member of the Great Falls Mens Golf Association, and the Montana Geological Society. He was co-author of The Silver Tree, a genealogical study of his family from 1751 through 1981. Jim's proudest achievement and his legacy is his family. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 5:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10:00 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE, with Fr. Ark Biczak, Celebrant. Interment will take place at Mt. Olivit Cemetery in Great Falls, MT on Wednesday, August 19, 1998. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Santa Fe Boys/Girls Clubs, P.O.
