Obituary for Meek

Michael James Meek, on loan from God for 47 years, beloved son and firstborn of Frances Torres Meek and James E. Meek, passed away in Anchorage, AK on Sunday, August 30, 1998. Michael suffered fatal head injuries from a fall and never regained consciousness; he passed peacefully with his parents at his bedside. Michael attended St. Mary's High School until it's closing, then went to Valley High School, graduating in 1969. He received his degree from the University of New Mexico in 1973, having attended on a full scholarship the entire four years. Michael was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He moved to Anchorage, AK 23 years ago and became a popular member of the community, belonging to organizations that raised great amounts of money for the Children's Hospital in Anchorage. He spearheaded many good causes. Michael is survived by his parents, Frances T. and Jim Meek; grandmother, Adelina Torres; paternal grandmother, Reynalda Lopez; brothers, Ronald Meek and Andrew F. Meek; sister, Christine Davis; brother-in-law, Tom Davis; and nieces, Sara Davis, Lisa Davis, and Lindsey Meek. He was preceded in death by his beloved"grandpa", P.S. Torres; and his aunt, Gloria D."Corky" Torres. Michael leaves a multitude of friends throughout Alaska who were all there for Mike and his parents. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass and celebration of his life, will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 3400 4th St. NW. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where Michael will be laid to rest with his beloved grandfather. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
