Obituary for Chavez

Thomas A. Chavez, 33, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Thursday, November 12, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Velma (June) Tapia-Chavez of Albuquerque; daughters, Antoinette Tapia and Desiree Chavez, both of Albuquerque; parents, Elfego and Reina Chavez of Torreon; brother, Norbert Chavez and wife, Elva of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Carmen Sanchez and husband, Frank, Lupe Vigil and husband, Irvin, all of Albuquerque, Linda Herrera and husband, David of Long Beach, CA, Cathleen Chavez and Jessica Barboa and husband, Mark, all of Albuquerque; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; paternal grandmother, Concepcion Chavez of Albuquerque; and Godsons, Daniel Tapia and Michael Chavez. Mr. Chavez was raised in Torreon, NM. He graduated from Estancia High School in 1983. Mr. Chavez served in the New Mexico National Guard. He joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1988, where he was a member of their Mounted Patrol. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5210 Claremont Ave. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 9:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Father Robert P. Malloy, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Torreon Cemetery with Father John Conway officiating. Pallbearers will be Jose Salas, Shawn Doubt, O.G. Lucero, Kevin McCauly, Todd Bethke and Leonard Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Tapia and Christopher Sanchez. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
