Obituary for Stampfel

Sophie A. Stampfel (nee Peritz) passed away November 3, 1998 at the age of 90 years. She was residing at The Cottages at the time of her death. Sophie was born in Opatjaselo, Slovenia, then the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She came to the United States with her mother in 1920 and married Josef Stampfel in 1923. She was a 70 year resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a 5 year resident of Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughters, Olga Eckstein of Watertown, WI and Dana Goetz of Albuquerque, NM; sons-in-law, Ike and Gary; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Martin; sons-in-law, Joseph Martin and Art Longley; and a grandson, Randy Martin. She was very active in Slovenian organizations-CFU, SNPJ, the Slovenian Women's Union and SLOGA, where she was the first woman on the Supreme Board. She worked for many years at Singers Boutique and SLOGA Insurance Office. She was an active member of the Church of the Risen Savior and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Risen Savior at 12:00 noon on Monday, November 9, 1998.
