Obituary for King

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday November 06, 1998

Marianne King, an Albuquerque resident, age 90, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 1998 after a long illness. Marianne was affectionately known as"Granny" to family and friends. Husband, Claude T. King; daughter, Mela Sandoval; and her sister, Harriet Gantenbein, preceded her in death. Marianne was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church, where she was an active volunteer in her healthier years. Marianne was a health aide volunteer for the American Red Cross and the New Mexico Department of Health, immunizing hundreds of children against childhood diseases. She was also a volunteer ceramics teacher at the Palo Duro Senior Center for many years. Marianne served as a census taker and enjoyed political campaigning. She took pleasure from recounting how she campaigned for and knew former President, John F. Kennedy. Marianne, a kindred spirit, gave freely of herself by helping out needy families. Her daughter, Linda McLucas and sister, Ellen Brown, both of Portland, OR, survive Marianne. She raised many foster children, has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was adored by many and will be missed. Gratitude and prayers go out for all the health care professionals that cared for Marianne during her illness, especially at Manor Care Heights and St. Joseph's Hospital for the tender care they provided. Visitations will be held today, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, corner of 8th and Stover, where a Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Manuel Montoya.
