Obituary for Clark

Ben O. Clark Jr., 88, passed away on Friday, September 25, 1998 following a six year battle with cancer. Ben was born on November 21, 1909, the son of Ben and Frona Clark in Clear Lake, South Dakota. He graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, Nebraska in 1928, then attended the University of Nebraska and Wayne State Teachers College. He was married to Dorothy M. Story on March 27, 1935 in Odebolt, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1997. During his working years, Ben was a real estate broker in Longmont, Colorado and owned and operated numerous motels and restaurants in Rapid City, SD, Ord, NE, Deming, NM and Dodge City, KS. He and Dorothy moved to Rio Rancho in 1988. Ben was a member of St. Paul's United Church, the Albuquerque Shrine Club, the Rio Rancho Country Club, was a 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and belonged to the Rotary Club for 50 years. Ben enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and boating, and entertaining his friends. Besides his wife, Ben was preceded in death by his parents; and only sister, Loretta Clark. He is survived by one son, Rod Clark and his wife, Suzie of Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Allison Clark Yearout and husband, Mark of Sandia Park, NM and Meridith Clark of Ventura, CA; three great-grandchildren, Jourdan, Taylor and Logan Yearout of Sandia Park, NM, also numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his many good friends in Rio Rancho. A Memorial service for Ben will be held on Monday, September 28, 1998, 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Church in Rio Rancho with The Rev. Dr. Richard Freeman officiating.
