Stephanie Anne Breeding, a resident of Albuquerque for 13 years, was killed September 12 in Seattle, Washington. Daughter of Michael and Sandra Breeding, the family moved to Washington in 1994 and are residents of Redmond. As a child she modeled for the Plaza 3 Talent Agency and was a member of the Stars dance group. She attended S.Y. Jackson Elementary School and Eisenhower Middle School. Stricken with cancer at the age of nine, she was treated at UNM Medical Center and subsequently underwent surgery to save her leg at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Albuquerque Publishing Company flew Stephanie home following her surgery. Due to cancer treatments her heart failed and in 1993 she received a heart transplant at Presbyterian Hospital. In the spring of 1997, she was invited to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show and meet Ruth and Desiree Bruton, the mother and sister of B.J. Bruton, whose heart she received. Stephanie was fortunate to have many close friends in Albuquerque whose love and support have continued to touch her and her family's lives. Her family in Albuquerque include her grandparents, Katie and Howard Breeding; her uncles, Jeff and Dave Griffin; and cousins, Rob, Shawn and Kelsi Griffin. Stephanie was a senior at Lake Washington High School. Last Saturday evening, she was a passenger in a vehicle that went off the Evergreen Point Bridge. Witnesses and diving teams struggled for thirty minutes to rescue her from the submerged vehicle. Funeral services are being held Friday, September 18, at the Green Funeral Home in Kirkland, Washington. Any remembrances to Stephanie should be donated to either LifeCenter NW, 2553 76th Ave. SE, Mercer Island, Washington 98040 or American Cancer Society, 2120 First Ave. N., Seattle, Washington 98109.
