Obituary for Dehon

William Nixon (Bill) passed away June 4, 1998, surrounded by loving family and friends. Bill was born on March 4, 1932, in Great Falls, Montana, to Marie and Roland Dehon. He grew up in Montana. His Air National Guard unit was called up to serve during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he attended the University of Montana in Missoula where he received his B.A. and M.A. in English. He taught high school English in Fort Benton, Montana, and Powell, Wyoming. In 1958 he married Sally Anne Rose on Lookout Mountain in Colorado. They moved to Albuquerque in 1961 where Bill worked for Sandia Laboratories for 10 years- first on the Lab News then in Training and Development. During the 1970's he worked for the City of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico. Bill then worked in Human Resources at GTE and Siemens from 1979 to 1990. Before retiring in 1995, Bill worked in the Rehabilitation Department of Goodwill Industries of New Mexico. Bill was a devoted husband and father. He loved the Montana and New Mexico mountains where the family hiked, backpacked and camped out regularly. The family cabin high in the Pecos has been a cherished retreat. Bill also was an avid reader, Journal writer and artist. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald. Survivors include his wife, Sally; son, David and his wife, Shirley; daughter, Anne; grandchildren, Michelle, Samantha, and Ashley Dehon, all of Albuquerque. Other survivors include grandchildren, Katherine and Larry Slone of Columbus, MS; mother-in-law, Peg Rose of Great Falls, MT; stepmother, Naomi Dehon, Coeur D'Alene, ID; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Dehon, Boulder, CO. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 1998, in the Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. An additional celebration of Bill's life will follow at the family home, 1504 Ridgecrest Dr. SE. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. Se, in charge of arrangements.
