Obituary for Sharp

Joyce E. Sharp died unexpectedly at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico early Thursday morning July 9th from cardiac arrest shortly after returning home from a pleasant two week trip back east visiting family and friends. Born Joyce E. Simmons on the family's farm in Salt Creek Township near Barnard, Kansas, her family moved to Albuquerque in her high school years where she went to earn a B.A. in Psychology followed by graduate studies at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Joyce was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She first worked in Houston and then moved to San Diego where she began a career in technical writing with Daystrom Corporation, where she wrote and edited operator manuals for computer controlled nuclear power plants. She later joined Sharp Laboratories in La Jolla, California as publications manager for their nuclear instrumentation products for biomedical research and nuclear medicine. There she met and in 1967 married her husband Rodman. They lived in the San Diego area for six more years before moving to Florida Gap near Deming in southwestern New Mexico. In 1979 they moved again to their present home in Santa Fe. For over 25 years Joyce and Rodman worked together under the Sharp Associates banner as management consultants helping early stage high technology companies with business strategy, product planning, and marketing challenges. Joyce is survived by her husband, Rodman and sister, Marjorie West of Topeka, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11th at The First Presbyterian Church, 817 Southwest Harrison, Topeka, KS 66612, followed by a luncheon at Marjorie's home.
