Obituary for Hawkey

William Carl Hawkey, LCDR U.S. Navy, Retired, born in Newton, Kansas, January 23, 1933, son of Alfred and Dorothea Hawkey, passed away July 16, 1998 to be with his Lord. He is survived by his wife, Helen; their children, son, David Hawkey of Little Rock, AR; daughters, Karen (Cairenn) Hawkey of San Francisco, CA, Christine Hawkey of Jonesboro, AR and Deborah Zimmerman of Orlando, FL; step-children, Eugene Bridges of Albuquerque, Deborah Bridges of Albuquerque, Teresa Bridges-Roberts of Albuquerque, and Paul Bridges of Knob Noster, MO; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Diane Hawkey of Shawnee Mission, KS and Walter and Julia Hawkey of Wichita Falls, TX; sisters-in-law, Paula Morrissey of Kansas City, MO, and Barbara Smith of Chino Valley, AZ; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He also leaves many loving and caring friends. Bill had suffered from cancer for several months. He will be remembered as a loving, kind and gentle man who cared about people. He loved his Lord so very much and always had faith. He will be missed by all. His remains will be placed in a private location that he loved and shared with his wife. A private memorial will be held at a later date."When I must leave you for a little while-please do not grieve and shed wild tears and hug your sorrow to you through the years, but start out bravely with a gallant smile; and for my sake and in my name live on and do all things the same, feed not your loneliness of empty days, but fill each working hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; and never, never be afraid to die, for I am waiting for you in the sky.
