Helen C. Lopez, 69, of Manzano, NM, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at her residence. Mrs. Lopez was born June 15, 1929 in Manzano, NM to Jose and Griselda Buena Venta Chavez. Mrs. Lopez was a lifelong resident of Manzano, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the Zapata Club. She was a Mountainair High School Graduate, she had also attended a nursing college and clerical school. Mrs. Lopez had been very active with the local Senior Citizens Group. Survivors include three sons, Alfonso Lopez of Manzano, Steven Lopez of Albuquerque, and James Lopez of Manzano; two daughters, Angela Nunez of Manzano and Rose Lourdes Valles of Fremont, CA; five sisters, Aurora Contreras of Bosque Farms, Amelia Flores of Albuquerque, Tina Torrez of Punta de Agua and Priscilla Rael of Albuquerque; 25 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 35 years, Mr. Alfonso Lopez; and a son, Albert Griego. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 1998 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Manzano, with Mass being celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 1998, with burial following in the Manzano Cemetery with the grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, 847-2331.
