Obituary for De Longe

Joy Lee De Longe, 84, passed away in Albuquerque on Sunday, November 22, 1998. She was born in Texas in 1914. Joy was the state swimming champion for two consecutive years in the 50 and 100 yard events. In 1940, she married Merrill E. De Longe, who had been her devoted and beloved husband for 58 years. Joy was the mother of two daughters, Vicki A. Weiss and husband, Chris of Sandia Park and Gael L. De Longe and husband, Fred Fisher of Mount Solon, VA. Among her well-loved extended family are grandchildren, Bryan Weiss and wife, Trish and her children, Brad and Doyle of Rio Rancho, and Eric Weiss and his companion, Kat Hardesty of Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Weiss and their mother, Linda Cooper of Moriarty. She is also survived by one sister, Bebe Suggs of Texas; brother-in-law, Kenneth De Longe; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Pettis. Joy was a Red Cross volunteer for many years, both in St. Vincent's Hospital and as the receptionist at the Santa Fe Health Service, where she was renowned for her wonderful telephone voice. She loved animals and welcomed many different ones into her life. Joy traveled extensively in Europe while Merrill was stationed in London and Naples with the U.S.A.F. Memorial services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.
