Obituary for Smith

Asher M. Smith, 92, a true gentleman, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Smith. After graduating from Belen High School, Asher attended the University of New Mexico. In the early years, he was employed by the railroad, then Albuquerque National Bank, where he retired after 42 years as a Vice-President. Asher was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. He was a life member of B.P.O. Elks and also Temple Lodge #6, A.F. & A.M. Asher was an avid golfer. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Medley of Albuquerque; brothers, Glen Smith of Kansas and Jeff Smith of Clovis; sister-in-law, Agnes Smith of Belen; numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; special friends, Jackie Grossetete and husband, Don, and their sons, Grant and Mark, and Teri Simmons and husband, Bo. A celebration of Asher's life will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church Chapel, East entrance, 1615 Copper Ave. NE, with Rev. Marty Singletary officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, with Masonic rites by Temple Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M. Pallbearers will be Jim Medley, Tony Medley, Bo Simmons, Don Grossetete, Grant Grossetete, and Mark Grossetete. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the TV Ministry of Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE 87106.
