Obituary for Beattie

James Winston Beattie, age 83, a three year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, December 26, 1999. He is survived by daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) and husband, Thomas R. Mann of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Katherine E. Mann of Portland, Oregon; grandson, Michael J. Mann of Albuquerque; cousins in Canada and Great Britain, and treasured friends. He married Mary Lucille Asling on February 28, 1942. Mary predeceased James on September 7, 1991 after 49 years of marriage. James was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. He served as a flight surgeon for the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He established medical practices in Santa Rosa, NM, Las Vega, NM, Colorado Springs, CO, and Lake Geneva, WI. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons. After retirement his adventurous spirit took him to unusual, exotic, and sometimes dangerous places all over the world. He spent the last summer of his life learning to fly an ultralight plane. The family wishes to thank Dr. Vigil, Dr. Ortolano, and all the nurses and staff at Presbyterian Hospital, Presbyterian Pickard Convalescent Center, and Presbyterian Hospice. Cremation has taken place and Dr. Beattie requested that there be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vieques Humane Society, Vieques, Puerto Rico 00765.
