Obituary for Pompeo

Joe Pompeo Jr., age 74, passed away Monday morning, October 25, 1999, at his home in Cimarron. He was born February 21, 1925 in Dawson, New Mexico to the late Joe Pompeo and Nancy Brandolino. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Pompeo of Cimarron; one daughter, Nancy Romero of Cimarron; one son, Larry Jefferson Pompeo of Espanola; one sister, Diana Cimino of Albuquerque; one brother, Ernest Pompeo of Santa Fe; two grandsons, Jared Pompeo, Jeff Pompeo; one granddaughter, Rebecca Jones; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley Pompeo and Brianna Pompeo. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cimarron. Joe was in the educational system in the State of New Mexico for 30 years as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent. He retired in 1984 as the superintendent of Cimarron Schools after 19 years. He was the creator and introduced the concept of the four-day school week and it is in use today in schools throughout New Mexico and other states in the country. He also taught high school in Hobbs. He served in the Navy during WWII and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Services for Joe Pompeo will be announced later by the Errington Memorial Chapel.
