Walter Schaefer, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, died October 15, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naida Schaefer of the family home; sons, Dennis Schaefer and wife, Lynn of Elkader, Iowa, and Michael Schaefer of Detroit Lakes, Minn; seven grandchildren; and sister, Amanda Harrington of Winthrop, Iowa; Mr. Schaefer is preceded in death by his parents, George and Rosa Weigant Schaefer; and his brothers. He served in the U.S. Army in the Southwest, Central, and Asiatic Pacific Areas with the 145th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Mr. Schaefer retired from the construction industry in 1985. Private burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999, 1:00 p.m., at Grace Baptist Chapel, 12201 Comanche NE, with Pastor Curtis Brown officiating.
