En Memoriam: Teodora Ramos, of T or C, New Mexico, passed away September 27th and her cremated remains were interred next to her mother's resting place at Memory Gardens Cemetery at T or C. Family members will gather at Assumption Catholic Church in Albuquerque to celebrate her life and commemorate her ancestry at the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Oct. 14th. A Baptismal record notes that she was born on July 25 1907 to Roque Ramos and Josefa Avila Gutierrez at Canada Alamosa (Monticello), N. M. and baptized"Teodora" on September 8th. She was affectionately known as"Yoya" to the family. Through her maternal grandfather, Jose Rafel Gutierrez, she was descendent from a founding family of the Villa de Albuquerque. Her maternal great-great-grandparents, Jose Migael Avila and Maria Lugarda Montoya married at Albuquerque in 1827. Teodora's great-grandparents, Juan de Jesus Avila and Maria Perfecta Romero were prominent residents of Paraje de Fra Cristobal. This family tree extends to the families that came with Onate. Teodora's father, a native of Aconchi, Sonora Mexico was about 11 years of age in 1866 when he was taken captive from his brother's ranch at Cocospera by a party of Apache raiders from the Ojo Caliente Reservation of Sierra County New Mexico. He was freed from captivity on August 10, 1870 and taken to El Rancho Cantarieso, near Ft. Graig by the Rio Grande, where he remained until about 1879 when he moved with his benefactor to Monticello. He was not able to return to his family in Sonora. He prospered as a farmer and rancher and would take his produce to Paraje, where he would conduct business with prominent Socorro County merchants, August Emilio Rouiller and Emile Grandgean. Now the generation of his son, Antonio; and daughters, Sacramenta, Domitellia, Amelia, Beatrice and Teodora passes into history, but their legacy remains within us.
